Match Report for Graces v Harrowdene 4th May 2014

Our first home game of the season brought the sun out and must have eased a few aching muscles and stiff fingers, as Graces took the field against Harrowdene. Gone were miss fields and serial dropped catches, the ground fielding was excellent and some of the catching outstanding. The first of these set the tone for the innings when Harrowdene opener Elstone tried to force Shofiq on the offside only for Anosh to take a terrific one handed catch in the gully. Two runs later Patel drove at Shofiq without getting to the pitch of the ball and lofted it for a combination of Scott and Newton to complete the catch. Shofiq ended his spell of four maiden overs with two wickets, while Newton, despite beating the bat on a number of occasions, finished with nought for seven. Anosh, taking over from Newton troubled the batsmen from the start but it was Sudanshu who claimed the next wicket, as Kent driving hard into the covers was taken by a very good catch by Naroshan. Anosh then set about the middle order, taking four for eleven including five maidens in his eight overs. Hemang with two and Modi with one wicket finished off the Harrowdene innings for just sixty runs.
Chasing a small total, openers Scott and Skyner looked comfortable from the start but with the score on thirty six Scott was given out lbw to the tall Smithy despite what some claimed to be a loud wooden sound echoing around the ground. Skyner joined by Naroshan then saw Graces home to a nine wicket victory with the former's entertaining knock containing five fours in his twenty eight.
As the game was over by tea time the teams played a sixteen over match with Graces again proving triumphant.
