Pacific CC – friendly – away Hackney Downs – won by 2 runs

Season not quite over!

Super last minute fixture arranged Saturday morning! Pacific’s oppo dropped out so Graces stepped in – a low scoring nail biter resulting in a 2 run win in the last over!

Match report courtesy of Pacific!

Graces saved the day, agreeing to the last minute fixture after the planned oppo dropped out at the last minute.

They won the toss and opted to bat, but only opener Matt Earl managed to score any runs. He said the bat was £20 from ebay but he seemed to know how to score runs with it. Some excellent opening spells from Tom Gane and Max Mortiboys. The ball was fizzing through and both bowled very economically. Only Max got wickets to show for it.

Unfortunately, Jithin got injured (the astro was a bit wet!), but the spinners managed to get the 8 wickets with excellent spells of bowling (that’s Ahmed, Nick Epstein, and Mohan).

Graces were bowled out for 119 in 27.1 overs and it looked a very getable target. But collapses and run outs were afoot.

There was a total collapse at the top order, with no one in the top 4 scoring a boundary. Riz did well to pull it back, and Tom Gane fashioned a near heroic innings at the back end. With hit excellent blows in the last few overs, and there were just a few runs left in to get in the last over. But he snicked the ball behind with 4 balls to go and that was that.

Thanks again to Graces for making it to Hackney Downs last minute (two drove from Birmingham and Wales), and for being such great sports.
